Curriculum-Based Coaching for Novel Leaders
Our ELA Intensive Program for the Novel Curriculum is geared toward supporting leaders who are implentating the Novel Middle School ELA curriculum and the Novel High School ELA curriculum. The intensive is a year-long partnership that include the following supports:
Goal setting support and strategy aligned to an instructional arc of the year; comprehensive Scorecards, analytics reports, and regular data stepbacks as we make progress towards goals;
Assessment strategy and regular guided data cycles and aligned progress planning, all alongside regular student work study and sit;
Creation of custom implementation artifacts specific to your school and context;
Regular teacher and leader video observation cycles from a Novel coach expert in the curriculum;
Weekly (or bi-weekly) curriculum-aligned coaching for leaders implementing Novel ELA, including:
Review of implementation artifacts (teacher video of lessons, videos of coaching meetings, student work)
30 min per week of tactical coaching
60 min per week of leadership coaching;
Quarterly full-day site visits alongside strategic priority planning;
Monthly stepbacks with network/district leaders to align on priorities and goals.
The Why…
The market is rich with high-quality, evidence-based ELA curriculum: more schools than ever have high quality instructional materials (HQIMs) in front of kids. However, despite the well-documented impact of HQIM, learning is not accelerating as we would hope. Research suggests that a major driver of this is the lack of holistic implementation support educators receive when it comes to actually using those HQIMs. Leaders and teachers need and deserve ongoing, aligned support on how to effectively implement and adapt their curriculum and how to build school-wide systems to sustain effective instruction and outcomes. Put simply: it’s not enough to simply have the “right stuff.” You must also implement with focus, clarity, and flexibility.
That’s where our team comes in: our core business is offering intensive support for schools in implementing and adapting high quality instructional materials. We help partners align their entire ELA program (coaching and observation structures, assessment programs, feedback and grading, etc). to support tailored implementation.
How We’re Different
Implementation support requires a significant commitment of your most precious resources: time and people. As a result, Novel’s work is unlike many other cursory “consultant” engagements. We offer intensive, year-long partnerships that include weekly coaching and artifact review, monthly PD, quarterly full-day site visits, and data analysis and implementation planning. All of our supports are customized around your schedule, needs, and context. We go all in on support to yield big results.
